I received this e-mail today from Nigel Huddleston, a Conservative Member of Parliament:
Six months ago the Conservative Party lost the election because we let people down.
But the Conservative Party is now under new leadership.
And weโre now going to do politics differently.
Weโre going to tell people the truth, even when itโs difficult to hear.
Weโre going to push Keir Starmer to do the right thing, because the whole country canโt afford for his Premiership to carry on as it has.
And weโre going to explainย why Conservativism matters.
In our latest Party Political Broadcast, which aired last night Kemi Badenoch spoke about all of that, her backstory and how we can rebuild trust in politics.
Here is my reply
Dear Mr. Huddleston,
Thank you for your email inviting me to reengage with the Conservative Party. I feel obliged to respond candidly, given the apparent enthusiasm for โtelling people the truth, even when itโs difficult to hear,โ as you phrase it.
I rejoined the Conservative Party after the Brexit Referendum in what, in retrospect, was a rare lapse into uncritical optimism. The restoration of British independence seemed to have come at last onto the agenda of one of the parties of government. However, it soon became clear that the Conservative idea of withdrawal from the European Union was a fraud. Instead of the meaningful departure the electorate voted for, we were handed a deliberately botched arrangement that entrenched the worst aspects of EU membership while stripping away any semblance of control.
Disillusioned, I resigned my membership. But while I could walk away from the Party, its mailing list proved less easy to escape. It seems easier to get away from a Nigerian scammer than from the Conservative Partyโs perpetual outreach efforts.
You claim that the Party is under โnew leadership.โ It is true that it is no longer led by the President of the Tony Blair Fan Club, an ugly robot, an obese adulterer, a stupid woman without a backbone, or a boring Indian banker. Now it is led by a black woman. While the face has changed, the substance has not. The lies remain as they always were, repackaged for the moment.
The current leader, Kemi Badenoch, was complicit in the betrayals that have discredited the Conservative Party. Consider the highlights of her career:
- A farcical Brexit that left Britain tied to EU regulations;
- Two lockdowns, implemented without credible scientific justification, which wrecked the economy and showed that our civil liberties were a dead letter;
- Attempts to force compulsory vaccination on public sector workersโvaccinations that were widely known, even at the time, to carry significant risks;
- A shadow war with Russia in defence of the grotesquely corrupt Zelensky regime in Kiev;
- The Online Safety Act, a blank cheque for censorship that Labour is now enthusiastically cashing;
- A complete failure to repeal the authoritarian laws inherited by the Conservatives in 2010, which Labour is now using to silence dissent.
This leader also attended the World Economic Forum, an organisation synonymous with globalist agendas that most Conservatives would claim to oppose.
The Conservative Party under Mrs Badenoch, like her predecessors, continues to betray every principle it once claimed to uphold. It has abandoned small government, personal freedom, national sovereignty, and the rule of law in favour of authoritarianism, cronyism, and incompetence. Far from standing for the ordinary British people, it has served only the interests of a managerial elite, indifferent to the damage it inflicts.
It is no mystery why the Party suffered a catastrophic defeat in last yearโs election. What is surprising is that anyone voted for it at all. If current trends continue, it is hard to imagine even die-hard loyalists finding a reason to turn out next time. The Conservative Partyโs record speaks for itself, and its promises of reform must count for nothing against the weight of repeated betrayals.
As for your request for me to watch your Party Political Broadcast and help spread the Conservative message, I must decline. The Conservative Party was given its last chance in 2019. Since then, it has done nothing to deserve another. You have cheated your electorate for the last time. I will be deleting future emails from you unread.
Sincerely,
Alan Bickley
