Going for Pearl!

Mrs Gabb and I have been married for nineteen years today. Fortunately, I was the first to remember this!

  1. I remember now….I would have been able to come to your “do”, but I had to drive pack to London to sort out a commercial problem in my shops. Just before your day, I was only up the road, as it were, in East Bohemia.

  2. Well done the two of you. Stay happy. Keep up the good work. Have a wee celebration.

    My best wishes…

  3. Sean, I have just read a wonderful article on Marriage at the Spiked Online website, http://www.spiked-online.com/index.php/site/article/11964/, including this:

“Symbolically – and in reality, for a large proportion of the adult population even today – this means marriage as a unit of mutual dependency, in which children are raised, couples support each other โ€˜for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in healthโ€™. It is the strength of the marital unit that enables individuals to survive the pressures of life, and thus to become genuinely independent – both of their parents, and of official sources of support and control.”

That is close to saying that genuine social freedom depends on marriage, and as a conservative I agree wholeheartedly. Good luck to you and your family, and I hope you make it to your Golden Wedding anniversary.
