    We could leave the EU, abolish VAT, close down the DESF, DEFRA, Culture Media and Sport, and the DTER. That would be for starters. I think it’d save a bit more than £45 billion.

    I don’t doubt defence procurement is a mess that needs sorting out, but junking the forces? Is Simon Jenkins being wilfully obtuse, I wonder?
