I had to drive up to London yesterday, and then back. I listened to several of the Antal Dorati Haydn Symphonies. I agree with David Mellor that these are, in every respect, the best recordings. Roger Norrington and Sigiswald Kuijken may produce a sound that would not have been out of place in 1790s London/Vienna, but they don’t, in my opinion, bring out the full genius of Haydn.

We had Antal Dorati conducting Stravinsky’s “Firebird” and Falla’s “Three Cornered Hat” back in th Fifties. Nice to see a post removed from the political realm BTW!
